Kepala Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati meminta dukungan terkait antisipasi ancaman megathrust di Indonesia. Dia pun menyinggung gempa bumi – tsunami yang pernah menghantam Aceh pada tahun 2014.
Dwikorita mengatakan, gempa dan tsunami Samudra Hindia yang juga meluluhlantakkan berbagai wilayah di 13 negara lain tersebut adalah akibat megathrust. Yakni, sumber gempa yang memiliki magnitudo sangat besar.
“Kami memohon agar upaya mengantisipasi gempa bumi megathrust yang pernah terjadi di Banda Aceh 20 tahun lalu, di sini kami mohon dukungannya untuk penguatan lagi. Dalam menghadapi megathrust. Meski kami sudah didukung sejak 7 tahun lalu oleh Komisi V, kami perlu penambahan ketangguhan lanjut,” katanya saat Rapat Kerja Komisi V DPR RI bersama pemerintah, Selasa (29/10/2024).
“Kami tidak hanya bertanggung jawab untuk Indonesia tapi juga 25 negara di sepanjang pantai Hindia. Mohon dukungan, mohon doa,” tambah Dwikorita.
Sebelumnya, BMKG mengungkapkan Indonesia berada di pertemuan 3 lempeng utama dunia. Yaitu Indo Australia, Pasifik, dan Eurasia. Dampaknya, Indonesia memiliki 13 segmen megathrust.
Tak hanya itu. Terdapat 295 segmen sesar aktif yang sudah teridentifikasi. Namun, masih banyak lagi yang belum teridentifikasi. Kondisi itu menjadikan Indonesia sebagai salah satu negara rawan gempa.
